Sore throat, earache, sinusitis and four more common conditions can now be treated by your community pharmacist under the NHS Pharmacy First scheme - usually the same day.
GP appointments are hard to come by. Since early 2024 your community pharmacist can assess, and where appropriate treat, seven specific conditions on the NHS without a prescription or GP referral. It is free and usually same day.
The seven conditions covered
If any of these apply to you, walk into Easons or book a consultation online. No GP letter is needed.
- Sore throat (5+ years)
- Earache (1–17 years)
- Sinusitis (12+ years)
- Impetigo (1+ years)
- Infected insect bites (1+ years)
- Shingles (18+ years)
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (women 16–64)
How the consultation works
Your pharmacist will take a short medical history, examine you in a private consultation room and follow the NHS clinical pathway for your condition.
If treatment is appropriate they will supply the relevant NHS medicine on the spot. If it is not, they will refer you back to your GP or to A&E and share notes with your surgery.
