GLP-1 medicines like Wegovy and Mounjaro have transformed weight-loss care - but they are prescription medicines with real requirements. Here's what a pharmacist-led programme actually involves.
Weight-loss injections are prescription-only medicines. Any legitimate UK service will assess your suitability, prescribe an appropriate starting dose, and monitor your progress with regular follow-ups. Anything else - over-the-counter kits, unregulated online sellers - is unsafe.
How the medicines work
GLP-1 receptor agonists mimic a natural hormone that regulates appetite and blood sugar. They reduce hunger, slow gastric emptying and improve satiety after meals. Most patients lose between 10% and 20% of their body weight over 12 months alongside lifestyle changes.
They are not a shortcut. Results plateau or reverse when the medicine stops, so the programme is designed around sustainable habits, not injections alone.
What our programme looks like
- 01
Initial consultation
20 minutes with the prescribing pharmacist. BMI, medical history, medication review and goal setting.
- 02
Starting dose and demonstration
We show you how to inject at home, safely, and give you your first month's supply.
- 03
Monthly reviews
Weight, waist measurement, side effects and dose adjustments. Most patients titrate up gradually over three months.
- 04
Long-term support
Once you reach a maintenance dose we move to less frequent reviews. We help you plan an exit strategy from month six onwards.
Who is eligible
Private weight-loss injections are suitable for adults with:
- A BMI of 30 or above, or
- A BMI of 27 or above plus a weight-related condition (type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnoea)
- No history of pancreatitis, medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2
- Willingness to attend monthly reviews
Book a consultation to find out whether the programme is right for you. If we don't think it is, we will tell you and refund the consultation fee.
